Today, leveraging decades of experience developing and safely producing nitroalkane technologies, ANGUS delivers a broad range of specialty chemistries that provide customers with multifunctional performance benefits, while meeting or exceeding stringent regulations regarding Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and biodegradability, as well as the quality and purity requirements of the highly regulated markets we serve.

By investing in new product and process development, and capacity expansions, ANGUS continues to underwrite the fast-growing, global demand for our specialty chemistries with fully integrated, dual-source manufacturing capabilities at our Sterlington, Louisiana, and Ibbenbüren, Germany, production facilities, ensuring worldwide security of supply for customers.

  • First patent granted for a batch process and continuous-flow reaction to produce nitroparaffins

  • Commercial Solvents Corporation (CSC) enters licensing agreement for patented nitration process with Purdue

  • CSC begins commercial nitroparaffin production

  • International Minerals and Chemical Corporation (IMC) purchases CSC and creates separate nitroparaffins division

  • Alberta Natural Gas buys nitroparaffins business, forming ANGUS Chemical Company

  • ANGUS moves into new corporate headquarters and research and development (R&D) center in Buffalo Grove, Illinois

  • ANGUS purchases facility in Niagara Falls, New York focused on products for the Life Sciences market, and creates a separate ANGUS Buffers and Biochemicals division (ABB)

  • ANGUS purchased by The Dow Chemical Company

  • ANGUS completes construction of a multimillion-dollar Market Development Facility in Sterlington, Louisiana, manufacturing site and helps validate the new-to-the world molecules the company is developing with its unique nitration process

  • Golden Gate Capital, a private equity investment firm with more than $15 billion of committed capital under management, purchases ANGUS with a look toward long-term growth, expanded capacity, continued R&D and excellent customer service through a global network of Customer Application Centers

  • Ardian, a world leading private investment house, acquires a 50-percent ownership stake in ANGUS from Golden Gate Capital at a total enterprise value of approximately $2.25 billion

  • Start-up of first commercial batch-manufacturing plant for TRIS AMINO™ and precursor raw materials in Sterlington, Louisiana

  • Patent granted for the continuous TRIS AMINO crystallization process and manufacturing technology in Sterlington

  • Patent granted for dual stage purification process of TRIS AMINO; purity specifications increased to 99.8%

  • Company completes expansion to Europe with opening of a new production facility in Ibbenbüren, Germany for manufacturing amino alcohols and other nitroparaffin derivatives

  • ANGUS commissions a new pilot plant in Sterlington dedicated to new derivatives and process improvements serving both R&D and developmental production scales

  • Start-up of dedicated cGMP TRIS AMINO™ Ultra Pure batch manufacturing facility in Sterlington

  • Introduction of TRIS AMINO™ Ultra Pure USP grade

  • Introduction of new, high-purity grade of aminomethyl propanol, AMP-ULTRA™ PC, enabling formulators of beauty and personal care products to comply with increasingly stringent global cosmetics directives

  • ANGUS launches AEPD™ VOX 1000, a multifunctional amino alcohol for waterborne paints and coatings, and other applications, which is classified as a non-VOC in Europe and Asia Pacific and considered a low-VOC additive in the rest of the world

  • Introduction of CORRGUARD™ EXT, a multifunctional additive specifically designed to extend the life of high-performance metalworking fluids

  • Effective June 25, 2014, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officially removed the company’s flagship AMP™ multifunctional additive (aminomethyl propanol) from the Clean Air Act’s list of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). AMP is the only amine approved by the EPA for VOC exemption

  • ANGUS establishes dedicated Life Sciences business to support the unique needs of the market; expansion of cGMP manufacturing capacity for TRIS AMINO™ Ultra Pure in Sterlington

  • Start-up of new TRIS AMINO™ AC Advanced Crystal continuous manufacturing capacity in Ibbenbüren, Germany; commercial launch of TRIS AMINO™ AC buffers; opened new Life Sciences warehouse, QC laboratory, and filling / packaging center in Sterlington

  • ANGUS completes expansion of the Sterlington manufacturing facility to include commercial production of TRIS AMINO™ Hydrochloride (HCl) products; launch of a new portfolio of natural botanical extracts for the Home and Personal Care market
